Two Crewneck T-shirts To Invest In

It's all about the crewneck

If you've been a reader of TES for a while, then you'll know there's nothing I love to wear more than a good crewneck t-shirt. It's the piece in my wardrobe that I over-invest in, time and time again. It's the piece I agonise over in terms of cut, sizing and sleeves. And it's the piece in my wardrobe that I'm most proud of.

For years now, I have placed a focus on saving up for key, timeless pieces instead of always indulging in fast fashion. I believe sustainable and ethical purchasing means selecting slowly and deliberately, making sure the pieces are built to last. And even though I don't get to buy a lot of new fashion pieces each year, when I do get a piece I know it's there to stay.

After cultivating my wardrobe's t-shirt selection for a few years now, I feel I've gotten to a point where I'm happy with the pieces I have. They're a good fit, made from 100% cotton and are a selection of black, white and grey. So, I thought I would share my top 2 brands for buying good quality, crewneck t-shirts. And trust me when I say these two tees are as good as it gets.

1. Anine Bing Lili Tee

This Anine Bing tee has been on my wishlist ever since I stepped into their Paddington store last year – which is a stunning space, situated right next door to a delicious pizzeria (or at least that's what it smelt like!) Made from a thick cotton, this crewneck t-shirt definitely has more structure than any others in my wardrobe.

I was initially drawn to its washed black look, something that higher end brands struggle to do well. With probably 80% of my wardrobe being black, white and grey, it can be hard finding new ways of styling outfits. Introducing different shades of black helps to add depth to my outfits and means I'm not always outfit repeating. The other features of this tee is its thick crew neckline, which I find adds a premium feel to it, and the Anine Bing logo on the sleeve. I really like the relaxed fit of this tee; it's the perfect length, not too oversized and the sleeve fit is very flattering. For reference I'm wearing an XS.

2. Camilla and Marc George Tee

It should come as no surprise that I've included a Camilla and Marc design in my top two tees. Camilla and Marc is probably my favourite brand; they're the epitome of class, modern design and tailoring. I own a few basic t-shirts from Camilla and Marc, but I chose the black because it's slimming and I just can't get over the simplistic logo on the front and busy design on the back.

What first drew me to this tee was the fabric. Made from a luxe mercerised cotton, I just knew this lightweight material would be a blessing during the warmer months. This tee also has that thick crew neckline that I love, as well as a boxy fit and longer length sleeves for a more flattering look. For reference I am wearing an AUS 6. Since purchasing this, Camilla and Marc have resized the design to be a slimmer fit and less over-sized. They recommend taking your usual size.
