The Best 2020 VAMFF Street Style
The Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival is over for another year, but not without a VAMFF street style recap first.
The thing I love about fashion week is the atmosphere. There's nothing quite like the buzz of the crowd right before a runway, or the feeling you get striding past onlooking photographers, desperate to capture the looks of the most creative people of the city.
This year's Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival was themed 'Fashion Wonderland'. The focus was on breaking down the stereotype of fashion norms and encouraging self-expression. My week started with the Gala Runway presented by David Jones. Showcasing the latest AW20 looks from leading Australian and International designers, the runway featured some of my favourite brands such as Aje, Acler, Bec + Bridge, Dion Lee and Toni Maticevski. With plans to also attend THE ICONIC Considered Edit Runway, the festival was unfortunately cut short due to the Coronavirus.
With Autumn now upon us, most attendees were dressed for the cooler weather, with a mix of muted tones as well as a few pops of colour. From flowing maxi skirts, to strappy heels, to chunky boots and of course statement bags, this year's VAMFF street style was more on the maximalist side – think colour-blocking and details such as oversized lace up backs and statement sleeves. There was a mix of gold and silver details, straying away from the gold obsession of previous years. And of course layering was also a huge trend of the festival – the Melbournian way.
Looking to AW20, these are the fashion trends of note:
Dior
For some reason we can't escape it – Dior is everywhere. With the infamous Dior Lady Bag still popping up everywhere we go, the release of their updated Book Totes, in particular those that are personalised, has seen Dior become front and centre in the designer world.
Strappy Heels Vs Chunky Boots
With winter slowly approaching, boots are on the rise but with a grunge twist. Think pretty dresses toned down with a chunky black boot. Modern yet comfy.
Beige and Brown
Neutral tones are coming in strong this AW20 season and there's reason to believe they might even take over from black. From all beige suiting to caramel coloured wool coats and latte coloured flats, this is the time to go big on neutrals.
What AW20 trend are you loving?
