Taking a Look at the Oversized Coat Trend

The Antidote to Your Winter Woes

The oversized coat trend encapsulates everything I love about winter fashion. Functional yet stylish, it's perfect for layering over jumpers and scarves – keeping you warm on those crisp Melbourne mornings. It's also great at pulling an entire outfit together.

This season, there have been a few updates to the trend. Shades of olive and army green have been added to the blacks, camels and greys of last season. And the coat has become a little less cardigan-like and a little more structured – think shoulder detailing, pronounced lapels and a slimmer fit.

With working from home now the new norm (for us Melburnians anyway), activewear and loungewear have integrated into our everyday wardrobe. And this is something I've been doing for quite a few years now. I love pairing trackies, sports tights and sneakers with my more structured, elevated pieces such as trench coats, designer scarves and designer cross body bags. I love the sport chic look – it's warm, stylish and (most importantly in winter) comfortable.

How I Style an Oversized Coat

This khaki oversized coat is a recent addition to my wardrobe. As you probably already know, I'm not one for colour but since I wear a lot of white and black, I thought a deep khaki would work well with any outfit. To continue with the sport chic look, I've paired it back with a white knit, my Lululemon sport tights and Adidas running shoes. It nails the work from home brief, while also being prepared for that lunchtime walk.

What's your favourite way to style an oversized coat?
