Journal 06: Focusing on my health and falling back in love with blogging

I can't believe I'm already writing a journal for June – this year has just flown! This month I've really been trying to focus on my health. After four months of settling into Melbourne life (and avoiding all exercise), I've finally joined a pilates studio and so far, I love it! I've also been researching gut health, thanks to an episode of the Glow Journal podcast with The Beauty Chef's Carla Oates – has this crossed anyone else's radar? Aside from this, I spent most of June consuming good food, investing (key word, investing) in winter clothing, and falling back in love with my blog.

Where to Eat

Stalactites Restaurant – 177/183 Lonsdale St, Melbourne, VIC

stalactites.com.au

If you're looking for a Greek feast in the heart of Melbourne, then this is the place to go. Between two of us, we ordered the homemade mixed dips with pita bread, homemade spanakopita, a small mixed giro platter, a greek garden salad, and a bowl of chips. It was obviously way too much food but, oh, was it good!

Top Paddock – 658 Church St, Richmond, VIC

This place has definitely become my go-to. On my last visit, I caught up with a friend and we both ordered the Blueberry & Ricotta Hotcake, with seasonal berries, toasted seeds and grains, double cream and maple syrup. It's a filling dish, but it's well worth it. I've also since been here with Ray (Your Bae Ray) before she jetted off halfway around the world!

The Hardware Societe – 10 Katherine Place, Melbourne, VIC

This place was recommended to me by a friend and when I saw that they have two cafes in Melbourne and also one in Paris, I knew I had to try it. From the blush pink and forest green decor, to the carefully crafted (and delicious) cakes, and the incredible coffee – this place is a definite favourite. If you have a bit of a sweet tooth like me, then you really should try the red velvet cake!

Pillar of Salt – 541 Church St, Richmond, VIC

This Richmond cafe is the perfect destination for a midweek lunch, or brunch if you can! I had the Iced Vovo Buttermilk Pancake Stack with strawberry custard, raspberry jam, coconut, marshmallow fluff, raspberry sherbert and crème fraîche and strawberries. Safe to say, it was delicious.

New In

Zara Oversized Coat

Winter has well and truly hit Melbourne, and I was not at all prepared for how freezing it can get. So, when I found a thick black woollen coat from Zara in a size medium, I decided to embrace the oversized look and get it. Also doubling as a blanket, I've resorted to styling this with a cream jumper, a black skinny leg track pant and my white Supergas for a very laid back, please-keep-me-warm look.

Camilla And Marc Oxford Track Pant

In my opinion, no one does logos like Camilla And Marc. So, when they released a range of logo sweats how could I say no? I was immediately drawn to these track pants, which I will be wearing every Saturday and Sunday for the foreseeable future.

The Beauty Chef Glow Inner Beauty Powder™

For the last month, I've been researching gut health and the effect that this has on the skin. Having very sensitive skin, I'm constantly looking for solutions for my skin concerns and only recently was I drawn back to gut health. I've been incorporating this Glow Inner Beauty Powder into my everyday routine as well as a probiotic. Do you take any vitamins or supplements?

Dirt Laundry Detergent

This month I received an email from Ettitude, recommending an Australian-made, eco-friendly laundry detergent, Dirt for washing their sheets (see how I style my Ettitude sheets here). Housed in a sleek aluminium pump bottle that you can purchase refills for, this seemed like the perfect antidote for the messy cap process that liquid laundry detergent usually involves. And of course, where I can I love to support companies that take a sustainable approach.

Falling Back In Love With Blogging

For a while now, I've felt a distinct disconnect from blogging, simply going through the motions of shooting new content and publishing it as frequently as I can manage. With the rise of Instagram, I, along with so many other creatives, have shifted my priorities, uploading daily content to Instagram and constantly battling with the algorithm (something I don't enjoy doing!) The enormity of this workload, on top of a full-time job and my freelance work, meant that I pushed blogging to the side. And after a long time coming, I finally felt the full effects of creative burn out a few weeks ago, leaving me feeling unmotivated and uninspired.

As a passionate creative, it can be easy to over do it, so I started to get back into things by making changes to my lifestyle and relieving some day-to-day stress. I began going to pilates classes a couple of times a week, incorporated more fresh produce into my diet, and found ways to automate more of my freelance workload. I improved my mood and productivity levels, spritzing my Auric Alchemy ZEN spray, or lighting a candle whenever I'm feeling stressed, and allowing myself to take more breaks. I also began to reduce the amount of expectations I place on myself. Now, I publish content to Instagram when I'm feeling inspired, rather than every single day, and to my blog whenever I have a well crafted article, rather than setting unrealistic deadlines.

Recently, I have been enjoying reading and researching, which has prompted me to spend more time writing. I've also been learning about different ways to improve my blog and ultimately your experience here. I have taken the time to plan the next few articles and will be checking in more often on my blog and Instagram Stories to see the type of content you would like to see more of on The Editor's Style. So, stay tuned.

How was your June? Do you have any tips for taking better care of your health? X
