Journal 08: New In August

The past few months have been crazy busy for me, so I'm only just getting around to writing my August Journal and it's already the 23rd of September! I spent August attending events, catching up with family, going on a couple of road trips and of course doing plenty of work.

Last month, I collaborated with Ere Perez, trying out their vegan, cruelty free and natural beauty and skincare products (for my thoughts and top picks, see here). I went to my first Sundays Offline event (for anyone who hasn't discovered Offline The Podcast yet, then you have to check it out – if you're on the hunt for some new podcasts, take a look at my favourites here). It was a gloomy, wet Sunday but the place was buzzing with likeminded creatives chatting, laughing, drinking Penfolds wine and sporting their new Offline tote bags. I finally got to meet Aleczander (@amanifesto_) in person and we chatted with host Alison Rice, who is just an incredibly witty and humble human being.

I also attended my first Vogue Online Shopping Night – I normally watch in envy from Adelaide). The city was packed, with live music performances, pop ups and experiences in store, and of course, plenty of free champagne! I scored one of the limited edition Vogue Bassike Tees and bought a few other pieces in the sale too.

This year was also my first time attending Melbourne Fashion Week. I didn't attend as many events as I would have liked to, but I went along to the In Conversation with Bianca Spender event at the Mercedes Me Store and the Ethical Clothing Australia on Tour event, which I'll have a blog post on soon!

PLACES I'VE VISITED

LARDER – 57A Vincent St, Daylesford, VIC

On one of last month's roadtrips, we spent the weekend in Daylesford for a much needed getaway from city life. On a friend's recommendation, we visited Larder for brunch and couldn't believe how cute the place was let alone the incredible food. I got the Eggs Benedict & Hash Brown, which had two poached eggs on potato hash brown with smoked ham hock, smashed peas, spinach, crispy Kaiserfleisch & hollandaise. But next time I'm definitely getting the Brioche French Toast with rhubarb compote, matcha meringue, whipped cream cheese & almond, pistachio crumb – I'm kind of kicking myself for not getting it after reading that!

HEPBURN BATHHOUSE – Mineral Springs Reserve Rd, Hepburn Springs, VIC

hepburnbathhouse.com

While in Daylesford, we stayed at the Hepburn Bathhouse and honestly I can't recommend this place highly enough! Our room was huge, with a living and dining area, a double sided gas log fire, queen bed, a double spa bath, double head shower and a balcony. It was a last minute decision to go so unfortunately we didn't get to try any of the treatments but that's what next time is for, right?

PIZZERIA LA LUNA – 24 Albert St, Daylesford, VIC

The best pizza I've had in a long time, by far. When we arrived to Hepburn Bathhouse, pretty much everything was closed except for this pizza shop. We had one with garlic and cheese, and another with ham, cheese and pineapple – so delicious!

NEW IN

ISABELLE QUINN THEIRY WRAP DRESS LONG

I finally found the perfect LBD. A silk black dress with a wrap design and a tie at the waist, side splits through the skirt, voluminous balloon sleeves with buttoned cuffs and a deep v neckline. Sound like the thing of dreams? Find it here.

DYLAN KAIN BIRKIN BELT

I've been eyeing this beauty off for a while now, so I decided to get it in the VOSN sale. Most of my belts are quite thick and can be annoying to wear all day, but this one is so thin that it doesn't bother me and it looks absolutely gorgeous on – whether it be with jeans, a skirt or a dress. Find it here.

OVEROSE PARIS ANTHURIUM CANDLE

I see this gorgeous blush pink candle on Instagram at least once a week and finally it was too hard to ignore. It has a beautiful floral scent of blackcurrant, wild rose and caladium leaves and is the perfect pop of colour that my room needed. Find it here.

ASPECTEYELIFT3

I finally decided it was time to add an eye cream to my skincare regime. Since moving to Melbourne, I've been visiting a facialist monthly and she recommended this one to me. Although I'm using it for prevention, this eye cream is infused with 28 natural botanicals and antioxidants and amino-peptide technology to minimise dark circles, fine lines, wrinkles and puffiness. Find it here.

RECOMMENDATIONS

PODCAST: THE LONG AND THE SHORT OF IT

Continuing my obsession for podcasts, I discovered this one through beauty writer Gemma Watts (also host of Glow Journal). Each episode is a deep dive into a new topic, for example capacity vs tolerance and I find myself thoroughly engaged and learning something new with each episode.

TV SERIES: The Hills: New Beginnings (2019)

I've only just recently watched the first 8 episodes and it's safe to say I'm hooked. Any other longtime fans of The Hills?
