Journal 07: The Latest Additions to My Beauty Collection

July was super busy, and, really, I don't think it'll be slowing down before the year's end. This month, I went to a Bassike warehouse sale in Prahran and bought some of the most comfiest trackies I own (similar to these). I was also invited to my first event in Melbourne, and found some new favourites for my beauty collection.

For this month's journal I've decided to add a recommendations section to the end, somewhere to list off my favourite podcast, beauty product, TV show, etc. of the moment. If you have any recommendations for me, let me know in the comments below!

PLACES I'VE VISITED

JNBY – Level 2, Shop 227a, Melbourne Central, Cnr La Trobe & Swanston Street, Melbourne, VIC

jnby.us

In July, I went along to the opening of JNBY's first Australian store in Melbourne Central (thank you to raraPR). JNBY is a Chinese fashion brand with a minimal, modern and unique aesthetic. With block colours, creative designs and quality pieces, I couldn't wait to find out more about this international brand. Has anyone else visited yet?

ASSEMBLY LABEL STORE – 26 Albert Coates Ln, Melbourne, VIC

assemblylabel.com

It's no secret that I love Assembly Label, so this month I visited their newest store in QV Melbourne. Although much smaller than their others, I'm so happy that there's now an Assembly store located conveniently in the CBD!

OSCARCOOPER – 160 Greville St, Prahran, VIC 3181

oscarcooper.com.au

After the Bassike warehouse sale, a friend and I visited this cute cafe in the back streets of Prahran. I ordered the Banana Bread with marscapone, salted caramel sauce, chocolate shards & peanut pecora – obviously I was not disappointed!

FINDERS KEEPERS MARKET – Royal Exhibition Building, 9 Nicholson Street, Carlton, VIC

thefinderskeepers.com/melbourne-markets/

There are so many perks about moving to Melbourne and the size of the Finders Keepers Market is just one more to add to the list. With many more stalls (and people!) we spent a decent three hours visiting all the stalls, from stationery, to fashion, to food. My favourites were Emma Kate Co. and Sceen'ry. The next market will be from October 18-20.

THE COVENTRY CAFE – 315 Coventry St, South Melbourne, VIC

On one of our South Melbourne Market weekend visits, we went to this cute cafe across the road. I had the Brioche French Toast with smoked yoghurt, vanilla infused mascarpone cheese and seasonal berries – which was closely followed by one of South Melbourne Market's infamous hot doughnuts.

NEW IN: BEAUTY COLLECTION

GROWN ALCHEMIST INTENSIVE HAND CREAM: PERSIAN ROSE & ARGAN EXTRACT

The freezing cold temperatures and icy winds of a Melbourne winter aren't doing much for my hands; which have become constantly dry and cracked. I was applying a few different hand creams I had at home almost hourly and yet nothing was nourishing enough to keep the dryness away. I had a look at mecca.com.au and found this Grown Alchemist one, which promises intense nourishment, a beautiful scent and quick absorption. So, I decided to give it a go (how could I say no to this packaging?) So far, I'm definitely finding that it's helping. Find it here.

MECCA COSMETICA NOURISHING HAND WASH

I've been waiting for Mecca to re-release their hand wash and hand lotion ever since I moved to Melbourne in February and they've finally pulled through! The packaging is clearly stunning but the scent is also heavenly – woody notes of clove, juniper berries, tobacco leaves and oud. Find it here.

GLOW RECIPE WATERMELON PINK JUICE MOISTURIZER & AVOCADO MELT SLEEPING MASK

I'm so excited that Glow Recipe has finally landed at Mecca! Having never tried the brand before, I decided to get the mini versions of both the moisturiser and mask to add to my beauty collection to see if they agree with my sensitive skin. I love doing the mask at the end of the week as the manuka honey refreshes and revitalises my often stressed skin. Find the moisturizer here and the mask here. And no this blog post is (unfortunately) not sponsored by Mecca; I just spend a lot here!

IT COSMETICS BYE BYE UNDER EYE ANTI-AGING CONCEALER

After Adriana of Le Blonde Fox did an Instagram Story talking about how unlike most under eye concealers this one doesn't seep into your fine lines, I of course went out and bought it! The formula is soft and silky, and super easy to apply with your fingers. I'm also finding that it definitely doesn't settle into my fine lines as much as other concealers I've used under my eye. Find it here.

RECOMMENDATIONS

PODCAST: VANESSA WANTS TO KNOW

Since curating my list of favourite podcasts, I've discovered a new one by the very successful Vanessa Hong of The Haute Pursuit – with season one dedicated to Asian Excellence. In her first episode, she sat down with the incredibly talented Phillip Lim for a raw and honest conversation. Check it out here.

NETFLIX DOCUMENTARY: 7 DAYS OUT (2018)

I found out about this documentary through a Vogue UK article and immediately added it to my watch list. So far I've watched episode 5: Chanel Haute Couture Fashion Show, which gives an insight into the house of Chanel in the lead up to a runway show. A must-see!
