Mecca Max Review

Being in the last semester of uni can really take its toll on you, trust me. The latest beauty line out of Mecca, Mecca Max, launched on the 1st of August and I purchased my favourites from the collection a week later, meaning that it’s taken me close to three months to get around to writing this review (sorry!)

I was so unbelievably excited to try this range, mainly because I love the Mecca Cosmetica line. Although I do prefer the minimalist Mecca Cosmetica packaging, the Mecca Max range is a makeup line and coming from the same brand I had high expectations.

Going into purchasing the Mecca Max products, I gave myself a budget of around $100 so I could review a few products and if I wanted more I could get them when Mecca Maxima opens in Marion (Adelaide) on October 20. I was amazed at the price point of the whole range, it’s so affordable. I found a few of the products looked a little cheap, like the Double Vision Eye Colour, and as the range wasn’t fully stocked by the time I got around to purchasing, I found it pretty easy to narrow down my favourites.

Pout Pop Lipstick$20

Leading up to the drop, and in the reviews following, this was the item with the most hype, so naturally I had to try it. I had so much difficulty choosing a colour, mainly because I was shopping online, but I finally settled for Red Rage—something a little deeper than I normally get. It’s a high definition lipstick and I love how it wears.

Highlight Hitter Highlight Brush$30

I watched one of the videos on the Mecca Beauty Junkie Youtube channel and instantly fell in love. Gin recommended using this brush to set concealer just under your eyes and I realised I didn’t have a brush that could do that so precisely. This is a small dome shaped brush and while it’s great to set the concealer, it effortlessly applies your highlighter exactly where you want it.

Skin Halo Diamond Dust (in White Gold)$22

From that same video I saw how pigmented this shimmer highlighter is and I obviously had to try it. Because I have a fair skin tone, I tend to stay away from warmer colours, so I stuck with white gold. I love to apply this on my cheekbones, cupid’s bow and in the inner corners of my eyes with the Highlight Hitter Highlight Brush.

Sponge & Brush Shampoo$18

I’ve been using the Mecca Cosmetica Brush With Success Cosmetic Brush Cleaner, but I was desperate for a proper brush cleaner so I thought I would give this one a go. This shampoo, although it needs to be done twice to get my brushes clean, eventually does the trick! It took a lot of makeup off my brushes and the fibres returned back to their original colours. I think I might keep looking for other alternatives, but for now this will do.

Shimmer Shot Lip Glitter (in Trillionaire)$18

I got a sample size of this because I spent too much money on the Mecca Max line (oops). I saw at the checkout that I would get a sample of something so I was kind of disappointed when it turned out to be this. The bronze colour isn’t something that I’d typically wear as I feel it makes me look much older but still I gave it a go. I probably should have read the description first because I was expecting it to be a light shimmery gloss (and I hate gloss). But instead it put a wash of bronze glitter over my lips, instantly making my make up look more appropriate for nighttime. Not only do I love how different it is from anything else I have, it smells amazing! And, as a lover of the amazingly scented Mecca Cosmetica Lip De-Luscious Night Lip Treatment, this is a huge draw card.

Next I want to try the City Slickers Tinted Oil (in nude), the Bring On Bright Illuminating Primer and the Brow Guru Control Gel. What are your favourite products from the Mecca Max range?
