Journal 09: September & October in Review

I honestly can’t believe we have less than 8 weeks of the year left. The past few months have just flown by (hence the combined September and October journal) and there’s still so much I’m hoping to get ticked off before the year’s end.

In September, I went back to Adelaide for a weekend and also visited High Street in Armadale for the first time. The boutiques were so beautiful, my favourites including: Aje, Bec + Bridge, Viktoria & Woods and Mecca Cosmetica.

In October, I wrote an article for Fashion Journal, visited Adelaide again, collaborated with Decjuba on their Decjuba X The Hunger Project campaign, got my hair done at Edwards and Co and went to Glow Journal’s live event with The Beauty Chef founder Carla Oates.

ARGO ON THE PARADE – 212 The Parade, Norwood SA
If you’re from Adelaide, there’s a 95% chance that you’ve been to Argo, either on The Parade in Norwood or on Victoria Square in the CBD. On our last visit, I had the gluten free pancakes served with a raspberry chia jam, espresso mascarpone, fresh berries and a butterscotch sauce. Argo Espresso also has a range of dietary options available, whether it be vegan, gluten free, dairy free, etc.

SHORT STRAW – 743B Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn VIC
In September, my housemate and I ventured down to Hawthorn for brunch and some much need retail therapy. I had the poached eggs on sourdough with bacon and hollandaise and a slice of carrot cake for later – definitely recommend!

THE FLINDERS ST PROJECT – 276 Flinders St, Adelaide SA
On my last trip to Adelaide, we went to The Flinders St Project for brunch. I had french toast and was extremely impressed to find they offer oat milk for my much needed caffeine hit.

COCO AND LOLA – 582 Malvern Rd, Toorak VIC
I have been wanting to visit this boutique forever and it did not disappoint. And with all my favourite labels – Joslin, Camilla and Marc, Faithfull the Brand, Shona Joy and Bec + Bridge – I will definitely be going back for some summer clothing!

BEC + BRIDGE – 1041 High Street, Armadale VIC
Bec + Bridge isn’t a label that’s featured heaps in Adelaide, so I’ve never really found anything of theirs that I love. But stepping into their Armadale boutique, I pretty much wanted everything that was either black or white. After trying on half the store, I found a beautiful black linen dress that I just had to have! (More on this below).

EDWARDS AND CO – 230 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, VIC
It’s been over a year since I had my hair coloured so it was in desperate need! After months of trying to find a hairdresser in Melbourne to my style, I finally settled on Edwards and Co, seeing Vanessa (@vanessa_edwardsandco) at their newly opened Fitzroy store. I went for my usual balayage (easy to maintain and style) and am so happy with how it turned out. Vanessa was a dream to work with and understood exactly what I wanted. I’ll definitely be back.

This dress is the thing of dreams: a flattering elasticised neckline, oversized sleeves that can be styled short or 3/4, cut out detail at the sides, draping tie at the waist and a long A-line skirt that would be flattering on anyone. Outfit style post coming soon! Shop similar here.

The thing about Alias Mae heels is that they’re actually comfortable – they don’t make you want to rip them off your feet two hours into the night. After buying a strappy pair (shop here) for an event, I had to go back for a more block heel version (shop here) to cover all bases. On both pairs, the soles are slightly cushioned and the straps don’t cut into my feet or ankles, which really is a first for me!

After months of searching for a sunscreen that I would be happy to wear under makeup every single day, Glow Journal podcast’s episode with Co-Founder of Ultra Violette Ava Matthews convinced me Queen Screen was the one. Unlike other SPFs out there Queen Screen is thin, hydrating, spreads easy and sits perfectly under makeup – I don’t even know I have it on! Review coming very, very soon. Shop here.

After staring daily at the gorgeous packaging of Syrene Skincare on Instagram, I was so excited to find this beauty in my goodie bag from the Glow Journal live event. It has such a beautiful, hydrating feel to it and my skin simply soaks it up. I’ve only just started using this masque, so I’ll report back on this one. Shop here.

FASHION JOURNAL ARTICLE: TABOO uses sanitary products to tackle the silence around menstrual health
I’m allowed to recommend my own article right? This was a really important one for me and I learnt a lot through the process. If you’re want to learn more about the conversation around menstrual health and how TABOO are doing their bit, you can read more here.

A couple of weeks back I caught this movie on TV – I’d never heard of it before and I honestly wasn’t expecting much but I quickly got sucked into it and actually really enjoyed it by its end.

I only just discovered this podcast after watching Pia and Kane’s videos for months. I love the two of the them together; they’re hilarious, adventurous but also insightful. This is the perfect Friday evening/Saturday morning listening. Find it here.

This month I’m going to a Frankie + Smith Journal event, playing my first basketball match after 2+ years, heading to Adelaide and then I’m off to Sydney on the last weekend – I can’t wait! X
