Top AW21 Trends from Melbourne Fashion Festival

Occurring each year at the beginning of the Autumn/Winter season, Melbourne Fashion Week is known for presenting some of the best looks in Australia geared to the cooler weather – as well as giving us a sneak peek into the trends we’ll most likely be investing in throughout the coming months. This year, the street style outside each of the live runway shows gave us an insight into some of the biggest AW21 trends.

The street style at Runway 4, held at the State Library of Victoria, was all about neutrals. From tonal looks to pops of deep browns and beige – the street style was truly incredible.

Here are some of the AW21 trends from the street style at this year’s festival that we’ll definitely be seeing more of:

1. Combat Boots

Back for another year but garnering significantly more attention, the combat boot is the comfortable and practical trend we all need after last year’s winter spent indoors. A bold look, combat boots are often paired with feminine dresses for an edgier vibe or with straight leg jeans, midi skirts, or even paired with shorts.

So switch out your Acne Studios Jensen Boots and opt instead for a chunkier silhouette – the Bottega Veneta BV Lug Leather Ankle Boots are an obvious choice, but I’m also loving the Cam Boot from Alias Mae (a much more affordable option!)

2. Neutral Tones

This Autumn/Winter it’s all about warmer tones – beige, brown, fawn, tan and cream. A head to toe tonal look is really having its moment, so don’t be afraid to play with lighter tones throughout the cooler months.

3. Leather/Vegan Leather

Whether it’s knee high boots, a patent leather handbag or a head to toe outfit – leather is here in a big way this season. Aje Co-Founder and Creative Director Edwina Forest (pictured above) looked incredible in head to toe leather from Aje’s winter collection. No matter the outfit, you’re going to want to include some leather.

4. Exposed Skin

This season, we’ll be seeing much more skin than we’re used to during the colder months. Think cut out dresses, half buttoned tops, flashes of ankles between midi skirts and combat boots, cut out shoulders, crops and statement tops. Find new ways to style your existing pieces this autumn/winter.
